Burda Pattern Review 7447

Pattern Review

Front
Rear

Pattern Description: Straight leg trousers with side seam and back welt pockets.

Pattern Sizing: 8 - 20. The size I made was 18

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Surprisingly so. I was very excited that the fit was good and that I did not have to make any major changes to the pattern

Were the instructions easy to follow? Somewhat, I did have to rework the welted pockets and although the back waistband pattern called for 4 pieces and the front waist for 2, the instructions did not specifically use the all 4 back waistband piece.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like how the Burda pants fit

Fabric Used: Striped polyester gabardine blend

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The waist was to large, but the hips fit perfect. Tapered 1 5/8 inches down from the top of the waist band to the center back seam.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I plan on sewing another pair or two of these pants.

Conclusion: The pattern was of average difficulty and gave me a good introduction into working with a fly front and welted back pockets, and although I had a slight mishap with the seam ripper, I like how the welted pockets turned out. It is the overall look of the fly front and classic style of the design that I would recommend this pattern to anyone that enjoys the comfort and style of wearing jeans, this pattern could be a great alternative trouser in any wardrobe.

Starting Out

I am working out my sewing sucesses with fear and some trepidation. I am currently working with the free Collete - Sorbetto Tank Top I found at
 http://grosgrainfabulous.blogspot.com/2011/05/free-pattern-month-day-24-colette.html
Just about every sewing blog I have visited has this shirt on it.  So I decided to try it for myself.  The pattern is simple.  If you want something more stylish than a plain T then give this one a try.  Feels great and the wide shoulder stops you from having to pull the top back in place.
Here is a short review of the pattern.
·         Pattern Description:  T- Shirt
·         Pattern Sizing:  6 – 18.  I sewed a size 16
·         Did it look like the photo on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?  Yes.
·         Were the instructions easy to follow?  Yes, very easy to understand.
·         What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?  I like the bias tape on the finished edges.  I had never worked with bias tape and this help me to overcome my anxiety.
·         Fabric Used:  Pink Striped gauze.  On hindsight, I should have lined the top, but am content to wear a t-shirt underneath.
·         Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  None
·         Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?  Yes, I plan on doing this again, with some changes.
·         Final Thoughts:  This was a very easy top and suits my style very well.
